8 May - Battle of Farsetmore, fought near Letterkenny in Donegal, Shane O'Neill, chief of the O’Neills of Tyrone, is defeated and the O’Donnells free themselves from O’Neill overlordship.
Shane O'Neill is killed by the MacDonnells near Cushendun^[1]. His severed head is sent to the government in Dublin and he is buried in Glenarm.
